MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Administration University of Liberia (UL) has dismissed eight employees and suspended one with immediate effect, after finding out that they participated in the commission of academic fraud and misconduct.

According to a release issued recently, the decision was made on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, when UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan warned that under her watch, academic excellence will be restored at the institution and its education mission will be free from the shackles of academic misconduct and corrupt academic practices.

Those dismissed from the Public Administration Department are the Chairman, Arthur Sharpe; Instructor and Clearing Officer, Thurston Lewis; Coordinator and Teaching Assistant, Dean’s Representative on the Clearing Team; and the Deputy Registrar, Office of Enrollment Services, W. Remsee Deranamie.

Others are Assistant Dean of Admission Lawrence Seitua, Assistant Dean of Records and Registration Shadrach Pah, Office Assistant to the Dean of Records, Foday Jaleiba, Support Specialist, Office of Information Technology, Jonathan Kangar, and Associate Vice President and Registrar Aaron Sengbe.

At the same time, the UL has reinstated Data Entry Clerk Mercy Koquoi and the Coordinator, Augustine Garpi, of the Business College.

The decision came after four months of investigation of facts related to several instances of alleged academic fraud and misconduct at the UL, including the case being referred to as the Dorr Cooper incident, among others.

In the UL President’s statement, she said:” Academic fraud is the antithesis of academic integrity and an enemy of academic fraud undermines the UL’s educational mission, and destroys the institution’s academic reputation.”

The University of Liberia’s President indicated that people who commit academic fraud or engage in academic misconduct at the UL will be held accountable, and impunity will not be an option.
