MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has announced the renewal of Executive Order #131, which has been extended to Executive Order # 148.
According to an Executive Mansion release issued recently, the renewal demonstrates the government’s commitment to establishing the Office of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.
The Executive Order will ensure the continued operation of the Court, which was initially created in May of last year to spearhead the process of justice and reconciliation for atrocities committed during Liberia’s civil conflicts.
The release said the move by the President comes amid calls from local and international human rights organizations, urging the Liberian Government to maintain momentum in addressing the legacy of impunity.
The release further stated that the issuance of the Executive Order by President Joseph Boakai underscores the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and addressing past injustices transparently.
