MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) is exerting significant efforts to enhance electricity supply in Liberia.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah highlighted the entity’s efforts to improve operational stability and increase electricity supply from regional networks.

Minister Piah also highlighted the power purchase agreement with Guinea and the shift from power sharing to zero load shedding.

Addressing MICAT’s Press Briefing on Tuesday in Monrovia, the information minister emphasized LEC’s vision to transform the power supply and attract new investors.

He said the goal is to contribute to economic growth, job creation, and the Country’s overall development.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation has identified Power theft and continuous delays in debt payment as critical challenges undermining the effectiveness of the institution.

At the same time, LEC Managing Director, Mohammed Sherif, said:” The continuous delays in payment of debt owed by some government entities are seriously affecting their operations.”

Mr. Sheriff added that despite the challenges, his leadership is working tirelessly to make electricity more accessible and affordable, something he believes will help to curtail power theft.

According to him, the affordability and availability of current charges are measures that can help minimize the alarming rate of power theft.

The LEC Head on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, said:” New technologies have also been developed to track payment of customers and book individuals who will engage in acts that undermine the operations of the Corporation.”

Managing Director Mohammed Sheriff is also challenging Liberians to take ownership of the reliable electricity being provided and report anyone caught in power theft.
