MONROVIA, LIBERIA – A five-man Investigative Committee has been set up by the Government to investigate the alleged brutality against Journalists.
It followed a petition presented to Government by PUL President Charles Coffey on Thursday, March 12, 2020 alleging constant brutality against Journalists by State Security.
A release issued Wednesday, March 18, 2020 quotes Information Minister Eugene Nagbe as saying the Committee will be chaired by former Information Minister, Dr. Larry Bropleh.
Minister Nagbe named the CEO of Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia, Momo Cyrus, and former PUL President Peter Quaqua as members.
Others include Professor Weade Kobbah Wureh Boley, Vice President for Research at the University of Liberia, and the Head of Liberia’s Civil Society Council, Loretta Alethea Pope-Kai as members.
As part of their mandate, Committee is expected to probe into the journalists’ complaints and report its findings in ten working days.
Minister Eugene Nagbe said the Committee will be required to include recommendations about ways to cement the relationship between security forces and journalists at the end of its investigation.
