MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Twenty-six new coronavirus infections have been reported in the Country.
The Incident Management Team Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Situation Report also reported two new deaths and seventeen new recoveries.
The reported added that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has climbed to nine-hundred-seventeen.
The number of deaths has now hit forty-one, while the total number of recoveries is now three-hundred-ninety-four.
According to the update, the total number of confirmed COV ID-19 infections in treatment stands at four-hundred-eighty-two, while health workers are following up on seven-hundred-ninety-three contacts.
Meanwhile, the Risk Communication Pillar under the Incident Management System has launched its COVID-19 Community Awareness and Masks Distribution in Buchannan, Grand Bassa County.
As part of the exercise, members of the Risk Communication Pillar are explaining in simple term, the danger posed by COVID-19 while distributing masks to community residents.
Launching the program Tuesday, July 7, 2020, the Head of the Pillar Information Minister Eugene Nagbe said a broad-based awareness through effective risk communication is critical in sustaining the fight against COVID-19.
Minister Nagbe said:” It would require a clear messaging about the risk posed by the virus for communities that making gains to remain on course.”
Also speaking, Grand Bassa County Health Officer, Dr. Anthony Tucker, stressed the importance of risk communication in the fight against COVID-19.
In a related development, the Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP) and partners have climaxed a nationwide awareness on COVID-19 and the distribution of food and other assorted items given by President George Weah.
The LCP, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, have been touring affected counties on sensitization campaign as well as giving out food to communities.
Speaking to ELBC Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Crusaders for Peace Executive Director Juli Endee said they have been working along with local authorities, including County Health Teams, to make the initiative successful.
Ambassador Endee said:” Her team has been doing community engagement on the need to uphold the health protocols put in place by the Ministry of Health.”
At the same time, Grand Kru County Senator, Dr. Peter Coleman, wants the health protocols initiated by the Health Ministry, for a successful fight against COVID-19.
Dr.Coleman said Liberians are no longer using the preventive measures that would help reduce the spread of the virus.
He wants the involvement of community leaders, chiefs and young people along with international partners to fight the pandemic.
Speaking in an interview Tuesday, July 7, 2020, the Grand Kru Senator said:” More than eighty health workers are down with COVID-19 and the virus is increasing on a daily basis, attacking older people, including young people that are playing deaf ears to the pandemic in Liberia.”
