MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Association of Mayors and Local Government Authorities (AMOGAL) has joined call for a capital punishment for convicted rapists in Liberia.
The group headed by Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, is the conglomeration of mayors from the fifteen political sub-division of the Country.
Reading a position statement on behalf of the mayors, at a press conference in Monrovia over the weekend, the Association Secretary General, Emmanuel Goll, described rape as one of the most violent crimes against women and children.
Mayor Goll said:” The Association, with support from its President, will muster the political courage in ensuring that rape is reduced in the Country.’
According to him, AMOGAL stands in solidarity with justice campaigners’ planned match against rape later this month.
