MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, is urging members of that august body to work collectively in resettling the Nation’s economic agenda.
Speaker Chambers said:” This requires the visitation of some concession agreements and optimizing gains from the various sectors.”
According to him, the body will enact laws in line with best practice, and work with institutions and nations for positive economic gains.
Dr. Chambers said:” It is incumbent upon the House of Representatives to provide the requisite oversight to remedy the economic constraints confronting the Country.”
According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, Speaker Chambers made the remarks on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Capitol during the opening of the 4th Session of the National Legislature.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is expected to elect a new Deputy Speaker to replace Bong County Senator, Prince Moye, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.
Our Reporter said that it followed Senator Moye’s submission of certificate to that body on Monday, January 11, 2021.
Speaker Bhofal said upon the submission of certificate, the body’s rules mandate it to immediately conduct a by-election to fill the vacancy.
Amidst the vacancy pronouncement by Speaker Chambers, Cllr. Fonati Koffa, Moimah Briggs-Mensah, Samuel Kogar, Clarence Massaquoi, among other lawmakers, are vying for the post.
The former Deputy Speaker, the Speaker and other officials of the House of Representatives were elected in 2018 for a six-year term.
