MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation has dismissed reports of a fire outbreak at its Mount Coffee Hydro plant.
LEC Chief Executive Officer Paschal Buckley however said part of the plant experienced a technical fault which was detected by safety devices.
Mr. Buckley said engineers have been working to solve the problem and restore the plant to its previous capacity. He spoke Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at MICAT Press Conference in Monrovia.
At the same time, Mines and Energy Minister Gesler Murray said the drop in electricity supply is caused by low flow of water at the Mount Coffey Dam.
Minister Murray said LEC is currently carrying out power-shedding to communities to make up for the limited supply, using the Bushrod Island Power Plant.
He said efforts are being exerted to ensure that electricity is provided to all customers connected to the National Power grid.
