MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives failed to convene its Tuesday, March 15, 2021 sitting, due to lack of quorum.
According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, eight lawmakers were recorded present following the roll call, with majority recorded absent.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, immediately mandated the Sergeant-at-arms to request members of the body to turn up for the Tuesday sitting.
Our reporter said the body still could not convene its regular sitting, as majority lawmakers failed to show up.
A simple majority of the body shall constitute quorum in accordance with its Rule 12.
In another development, Dr.Chambers said the National Legislature has mandated the National Elections Commission (NEC) to conclude talks with the Executive for the conduct of By-elections in Bong, Bomi and Grand Gedeh Counties.
Speaker Chambers made the comment Tuesday, March 16, 2021, following the appearance of the NEC before the body last week in Executive Session.
According to him, outcomes of said discussions, when communicated to the body, can influence a resolution for the conduct of the three Representatives By-elections.
The By-elections followed the election of Prince Moye, Edwin Snowe and Zoe Pennue as senators. They were all former representatives of Bong, Bomi and Grand Gedeh Counties, respectively.
They were elected during the December 2020 Special Senatorial elections.
