MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate is calling for immediate investigation into recent attacks pointing to electoral matters in the Country.
In a statement issued Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the Senate condemned recent arson attacks at the home of Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe and the Headquarters of the National Elections Commission (NEC).
The lawmakers want perpetrators of what they described as barbaric acts to be brought to justice in the shortest possible time.
According to the Liberian Senate, the swift investigation and arrest of anyone involved will serve as a deterrent to all criminal minded individuals.
At the same time, the President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) is also calling on the Liberia National Police (LNP) and other security apparatus to investigate the attacks, because the LNBA does not support wanton acts that tend to undermine Liberia’s democratic gains.
Addressing reporters in Monrovia on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Cllr. Gongloe urged the LNP to ensure that the culprits do not go with impunity.
He described the attacks as unacceptable and unjustifiable, adding that such action should not be tolerated in the society.
On Monday night, March 15, 2021, some unknown persons threw petrol bombs in the residence of Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe, destroying one of his vehicles, while the NEC Headquarters in Sinkor was attacked in similar fashion.
