MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved 17.2 million United States Dollars to fund a project to benefit approximately 250 thousand vulnerable people living in the Monrovia Metropolitan Area.
As part of the six-year Monrovia Metropolitan Climate Resilience Project, a seawall will be constructed in West Point to protect the area against sea erosion and storms.
A release issued Tuesday, March 23,2021 said the project will also improve institutional capacity and policy support for integrated coastal zone management across Liberia, protect ecosystem mangroves, and strengthen gender- and climate-resilient livelihoods.
The project will be implemented by Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Liberian Government is providing 8.4 million United States Dollars to co-finance the project, as art of efforts to respond to the climate crisis, enhance livelihoods and protect vulnerable ecosystems.
