BONG COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has launched a thirty-million Liberian Dollar Scholarship Program for public high school students in Bong County.
The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGee, launched the program on behalf of the Government of Liberia, at the Gbarnga Sports Stadium over the weekend.
According to Minister McGee, President Weah is spearheading the fundraising aspect to support the scheme.
He said:” The program seeks to alleviate the hardship parents face in sending their children to school.”
Minister McGee said that the program is being supported by friends, officials of Government, and business people, and assured that a mechanism is being put in place to ensure transparency in the process, to benefit all in the county.
At the same time, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has praised President George Weah for prioritizing Bong County Education Sector over the years.
Vice President Taylor said:” President Weah’s love and support for education is being manifested into transformative gains in the education sector.”
The Liberian Vice President spoke over the weekend at the launch of a thirty-million United States Dollar Scholarship program for public high school students in Gbarnga, Bong County.
VP Taylor said the Liberian Leader is spearheading a process that will reduce hardship on parents in the County.
She presented five million Liberian Dollars as an initial contribution to support the scholarship program.
Meanwhile, VP Taylor has also ensured transparency in the scholarship process for desiring high school students to benefit.
In response, Public high schools in the county have lauded the Liberian Government for the initiative and considered the launch of the scholarship scheme a major boost to their education sojourn.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, student Lucia Flomo, an eleventh grader at the N.V. Massaquoi High School, urged parents to support Government, in order to sustain the program.
Student Flomo said Bong County Representative Marvin Cole assured that the scholarship will be passed through an act of legislation to benefit students every year.
According to her, the program did not come as a surprise, as President Weah continues to prioritize education, since the inception of his administration.
