LOWER MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, has intervened in stopping Thursday’s protest by workers of the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
Minister McGill swiftly arrived and appealed to the workers to abandon the protest and seek dialogue in finding solutions to their concerns.
At the end of the interaction, it was established that each department of the RIA will send a representative at the proposed meeting with the Liberian Government, through the Labor Ministry and the Office of Minister McGill on Monday January 3, 2021.
As part of his intervention, Minister McGill put stop to any plan transfer of workers by the RIA.
He called on protesting workers to remain calm until the planned dialogue is held to amicably resolve the dispute.
In the meantime, calm has returned to the RIA following a day long protest staged by angry workers.
Workers from RIA Passenger Services, Ground Operation and Aircraft Maintenance Departments protested against RIA Management’s planned transfer of them to the National Aviation Service (NAS), without benefits for services rendered.
The Group’s Head, Yeany Dorbor, told ELBC on Thursday, December 30, 2021, that they will not go under the NAS without knowing what is at stake in terms of their future.
He said:” The RIA Management only informed us that we are going on twelve month probation to NAS, without any clear understanding.”
The angry protesters remained non-compliant in their protest, grounding the AWA FLIGHT until the arrival of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill.
