Integrated Sierra Leoneans in Liberia appeal for Liberian citizen status

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Over three-thousand Sierra Leonean integrated refugees, in Grand Cape Mount County, are appealing to the Liberian Government to grant them legal status as citizens of Liberia.

The integrated Sierra Leoneans said they have appealed several times to the Liberian Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission to aid in the process, but to no avail.

ELBC Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent quotes the Chairman of the integrated refugees Ben Kamara as saying the LRRRC, through the Government, promised to educate their children for five years without tuition, something which is yet to be done.

Mr. Kamara said:” Since our formal integration in 2010, we have been denied passports and citizen identification cards, and without these items, it is impossible to partake in the decision making of the Country as citizens, and at the same time hampering our free movement in the Country.”
