MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Newly elected President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Mr. Charles Coffey, has vowed to promote the union’s Decentralization policy and mutual respect within the Union.
Mr. Coffey, spoke moment after he was declared winner as President by the Elections Committee from the November 16, 2019 elections in which several members of the PUL contested at the Union’s Headquarters in Monrovia.
According to the PUL President-Elect, he promised to uphold the Vision and Mission of the Union despite challenges confronting the Union and paid tribute to the electorates and his ‘Team Coffey’ Members for re-electing him, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in him.
“I want us to work together as PUL members for the common good of the Union”, Mr. Coffey urged the PUL.
The Saturday’s Election of PUL new corps of officers for a three-year term was followed the lifting of a Court injunction earlier placed on the electoral process by Mr. Coffey’s contender for the Presidency, Mr. Octavian Williams though the Civil Court B. in Monrovia.
The PUL Elections Committee following a long day of successful electoral process, pronounced the Mr. Charles Coffey, as winner of the Presidential Post after defeating his contender, Mr. Williams, with a margin of 401 votes to 19 votes.
For the Vice Presidential Post, the former Secretary General of PUL, Mr. Daniel Nyankuna, defeated Madam Weemon Jallah Cole-Boyce with 355 votes to 54 votes to become PUL Vice President.
In another results for the Post of Secretary General, Mr. Musa Kannah defeated his contender, Nathaniel Dayboy, 308 votes to 96 votes, while Mr. Akoi Baysah defeated his counterparts, Mr. Moses Garzeawu Kollie and Mr. Jutunu Kollie, with 195 votes to 145 and 67 votes respectively.
The official results were released by the PUL Elections Committee Chairman, Jarlawah Tonpo, described the electoral process as “free, fair and violent-free”. Mr. lauded the electorates for their participation in the process.
