Gov’t to put Transit Buses on South-Eastern Roads Soon

by Edward Tamba

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The Managing Director of the Liberia National Transit Authority (NTA) – says the entity will assign some of the 45 buses recently donated by the Indian Government to South-Eastern Liberia.

Mr. McCauley said the move followed recent assessment of eight counties, with emphasis in the southeastern region.

He said the inclusion of South-Eastern Liberia further compliments other counties where the NTA will be available.

The NTA head said this will ease transportation burden and enhance revenue generation, including agriculture activities.

He lauded President George Weah for ensuring roads connectivity across the Country.

At the same time, the NTA authorities have disclosed that a team from India is expected to arrive in Liberia soon to complete a Post Delivery Inspection on the 45 buses recently donated by the Indian Government.

Mr. Herbie McCauley said the inspection is part of an agreement between the Governments of India and Liberia aimed at maintaining the buses.

In an ELBC interview Tuesday, January 21, 2020, Mr. McCauley said as part of the process, the Indian Government will present two containers of spare parts, and two assigned specialists who will for two years guarantee the proper functioning of the buses.

According to him, when these conditions set are met, the buses will begin to ply the streets in the next one week.

Mr. McCauley also wants Liberians, including passengers, to buttress efforts by the NTA toward the maintenance of the buses when they start to ply the streets.
