Former President Sirleaf Challenges Legislature to Take Steps on Ending Rape, SGBV

Monrovia, Liberia – Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has challenged the leadership of the Legislature to take steps to end rape and all forms of Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

Former President Sirleaf said the leaderships of the three branches of Government must ensure the implementation of recommendations within the Roadmap Document.

Madam Sirleaf lauded Executive for drafting the SGBV Roadmap Document and convening a National Conference with relevant stakeholders to find a remedy to end rape in the Country.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, the former President said Country is fighting the pandemic of Covid-19 and the epidemic of rape.

Meanwhile, Senate Pro-tempt, Albert Chie and House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, commitment of the Legislature to cooperate with all stakeholders on SGBV.

Pro-tempt Chie and Speaker Chambers said members of the legislature are on the standby to act upon proposed SGBV legislations from the Executive.
