MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Labor Minister has been defending the Government of Liberia’s position on public sector unionization.

Minister Moses Kollie said: “Government will not grant union status to certain public entities, including the health sector, to protect the stability of the Country.”

Minister Kollie said:” Granting health workers union status is in violation of the Civil Servant Standing Order.”

He described as crucial the need to harmonize the Decent Work Act and the Civil Servant Standing Order, to protect the stability of the Country.

The Labor Ministry Boss, however, said that the Ministry has made significant progress in handling some labor issues, citing the BEA Mountain and Arcelor Mittal conflicts.
