MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has approved one-million United States Dollar stimulus payments for private school teachers.

A Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) Release issued Wednesday, September 30, 2020, said the Government recognizes the financial difficulties private school teachers are experiencing, as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.

President George Weah, in consultation with the National Legislature, has instructed the Ministry of Finance to provide the money out of the Fiscal year 2019/2020 surplus, to pay as stipend to the teachers.

According to the release, President Weah said:” The move is Government’s gesture to assist private schools and their teachers prepare for the resumption of normal school activities.”

The release said Government has constituted a vetting and payment taskforce, to identify and pay eligible teachers and administrators of private schools across the Country.

The Vetting and Payment Taskforce comprises the Ministry of Education as Chair, the Finance Ministry, Civil Service and the Internal Audit Agencies.

The release is at the same time requesting private school owners to submit their last updated payrolls to the taskforce, through the Ministry of Education for validation before payment.
