President George Weah has sent a message of condolence to the government and people of Ghana on the death of Former Ghanaian Leader Jerry John Rawlings.
Writing on his Twitter account moments after the former President’s death was confirmed; President Weah conveyed his profound and deepest sympathy on behalf of the government and people of Liberia and in his own name.
Former President Rawlings died at the age of 73 at the Kolebu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana after a short illness.
As a senior officer in the Ghana Air Force, he led two coups, first in 1979, before twice being elected president in multi-party elections.
He ushered in a long period of political stability that continues in Ghana today, after a series of coups in the 1960s and 1970s.
