Gov. posts Team of Epidemiologists to Counties bordering Guinea

by Francis Pelenah Jr,

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), has dispatched a team of epidemiologists to counties bordering the Republic of Guinea.

It followed reports of the reemergence of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease in that neighboring Country.

The move is in straight adherence to a mandate by President George Weah for the activation of surveillance measures, in order to prevent the transmission of the virus on Liberian soil.

The epidemiologists are expected to support the County Health Teams of Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties.

Other County Health Teams, including Montserrado County, have also heightened their alert levels.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health along with the NPHIL has constituted a new Incident Management System of Ebola.

According to a release issued Monday, February 15, 2021, the move by the Ministry is a preemptive strategy to assess Liberia’s preparedness.

Liberian Health Authorities have vowed to ensure the new IMS-Ebola Virus response effort does not interfere with the current COVID-19 response.

Liberia, however, has no known case of Ebola, and Government therefore calls for calm, as it takes steps to keep the public safe.
