MNROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian Senate has described as cowardly and unacceptable, the recent acts of violence meted against Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe and the National Elections Commission (NEC) by unknown individuals.

According to the Senate, the throwing of petrol bombs and other lethal objects at the home of Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe and the Compound of the NEC is an attack on Liberia’s democracy.

The Senate believes the attacks are meant to intimidate the National Elections Commission and the Judiciary to fairly dispose of cases originating from the December 8, 2020, Senatorial Elections.

In a statement issued Wednesday, March 17, 2021, the Senate called on the Liberia National Police to be more vigilant in protecting every branch of government and the citizenry uncompromisingly.

At the same time, the Liberian Senate is calling on politicians and other actors to exercise restraints in their statements on matters that are pending before the courts and the National Elections Commission.
