Health Ministry receives about 27-thousand doses of AstraZeneca Vaccines……

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Health has received about twenty-seven-thousand doses of vaccines as part of efforts to combat the Coronavirus in Liberia, through a public-private partnership between the African Union and Lone Star Cell MTN.

Speaking during the presentation in Monrovia on Monday, March 22, 2021, Lone Star Cell MTN Head of Corporate Affairs, Ali Fakih, said the AstraZeneca vaccine doses were donated following a commitment to the health sector of the African Continent.

Mr. Fakih said:” MTN Africa is committed to securing about seven-million doses of the COVID-19 Vaccine to be spread across the fifty-five African Union (AU) countries, especially for health workers.”

According to him, the donation is part of the Africa Center for Disease Control and prevention initiative (ACDCPI).

The vaccines are expected to arrive in Liberia by the end of March to boost the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Receiving the vaccines on behalf of the Liberian Government, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah urged Liberians to take advantage of the vaccines, when it is rolled out to the public.

Dr. Jallah also assured the public that the vaccines had been tested and proven to be safe for humans.

She lauded the MTN Company for the donation of the vaccines as part of efforts to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the Country.

She said:” The controversies surrounding the vaccines are clear, as it is about seventy-nine percent effective against the Coronavirus.”
