MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate on Tuesday held a debate on whether or not to concur with the House of Representatives in approving the printing of new Liberian currency.
The House last week approved the request of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to print new family of Liberian Dollar banknotes, in the tone of over forty-eight billion dollars.
The Senate Joint Committee recommended several technical details that must be worked out before passing a resolution to approve the printing.
Though the Committee recommended that the Senate approves the printing of the money, it was also concern about the control mechanism and accessibility for people in the counties.
ELBC Legislative Reporter said that there were other issues raised during the debate by some opposition lawmakers that needed to be addressed before any approval is made.
Meanwhile, the Tuesday, March 30, 2021, decision has now been pushed to Wednesday, March 31, 2021, the same date the Senate is expected to close for its Easter Break.
