GRAND KRU COUNTY, LIBERIA-Over Forty persons in Grand Kru County have benefited from a Multi-Sectorial and Multinational Corporation WASH Policy Influencing meeting across the County.
The Multi-Sectorial and Multinational Corporation WASH Policy Influencing meeting with citizens’ was organized by FERD Liberia.
The meeting was attended by Grand Kru local authority, officials of WASH, representatives of the Grand Kru County School System, and the Grand Kru County health Team.
Others include, Civil Society organizations, Motorcyclists, Community-Based organizations, among others.
Despite COVID-19 putting the spotlight on the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of disease, it has been proven that three-billion people worldwide, including hundreds of millions of school-going children, do not have access to hand washing facilities with soap.
Speaking on the Multi-Sectorial and Multinational Corporation WASH Policy Influencing meeting with citizens in Barclayville, FERD CSOs Child Consultant Liberia Weller Bohlen said, CSOs, CBOs, and other partners have made their commitments in promoting the activities of WASH in the County.
Weller Bohlen asserted that the aftermath of the meeting was also intended to strengthen the collaboration and engagement with WASH actors and other stakeholders in Grand Kru.
Mr. Bohlen maintained that FERD is responding to the Sustainable Development goal six that emphasizes water for all lives 2030.
Meanwhile, for her part, the program Manager of FERD Yuku Ford noted that the Multi-Sectorial and Multinational Corporation WASH Policy Influencing meeting was welcoming by the participants, most especially by pointing out some of its cases of unclean environment.
Yuku Ford said the one daylong Multi-Sectorial and Multinational Corporation WASH Policy Influencing meeting was centered around how citizens in the county are responding to Water and conditions relating to public health, especially the provision of safe drinking Water and adequate sewage disposal.
She said people in rural areas, urban slums, disaster-prone areas, and low-income Counties are the most vulnerable and the most affected places.
The program Manager of FERD, Yuku Ford, said:” Access to clean water, basic toilet facilities, and good hygiene practices does not only keep people thriving, but also give them a healthier start in life, adding that growing up in a clean and safe environment is every child needs and needs the full involvement of citizens.”
The FERD program Manager further said that the meeting will help community dwellers work with line Ministries to enable them improve WASH policy in their respective areas.
Madam Yuku Ford, however, said FERD has also started engagement with the Legislature and local County authorities for WASH Policy to be included in the County Development Fund.
Yuku Ford assured citizens of the commitment made by Legislators of the county and local County authorities for promoting WASH Policy through the County Development Fund and other supporting arms.
