Gov’t warns of not condoning any form of violent protest in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The government of Liberia says it will not condone any form of violence that tends to harm the country’s fragile peace.

The government’s statement followed series of violent protests that have left several public and private properties vandalized and destroyed across the country.

At a MICAT’s press briefing Thursday, August 19, 2021, Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie said the government is aware and have mandated the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia National Police to arrest any citizen involved in such unwholesome act.

Minister Rennie maintained that though peaceful assembly is a constitutional right, it should be done as the name suggests.

Meanwhile the government is however cautioning citizens to desist from violence and use dialogue and the rule of law in seeking redress.
