Nat’l Police accused of destroying goods, properties of marketers….

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has promised to launch an inquiry into reports that its officers set ablaze goods and properties of marketers in the Paynesville area.

According to the reports, the LNP officers were allegedly seen in the act on Monday, September 6, 2021.

But according to Police Spokesman, Moses Carter, it is not a part of the LNP’s mandate to burn or destroy marketers’ properties, when carrying out any enforcement order.

Though Mr. Carter did not state when the police investigation will begin, he told ELBC that the police was only providing a back up to the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC).

He also frowned on marketers who have been in constant violation, refusing to leave the streets.

Scuffle broke out on Monday when the LNP and some members of the Joint Security joined the PCC to clear the ELWA Junction of street sellers.

In a separate development, the LNP has dismissed as untrue widespread public assertion that it is not enforcement the new transport fares.

Police Spokesman Moses Carter said that enforcement of the process is ongoing, but its effectiveness largely depends on the public.
