Nat’l Steering Committee on Bicentennial Program adopts Roadmap…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Steering Committee organizing programs marking the 200th year founding of the Liberian Republic has tentatively adopted the roadmap to guide the bi centennial celebrations.

Recently President George Weah set up a committee to plan activities leading to the bicentennial celebration of arrival of freed slaves from the United States of America.

The roadmap was adopted at a meeting held Thursday, October 7, 2021, attended by several government officials, Civil Societies and the United States Embassy at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, outside Monrovia.

Speaking to reporters at the meeting, Information Minister and Chairman of the Committee, Ledgerhood Rennie, said:” There is an ongoing review of the historic context of the bicentennial, and the next meeting scheduled for Monday, October 11, 2021, will look at the crafting of an appropriate national theme, slogans and subcommittees to begin active preparations.”

The Information thanked all Committee members and assured of a unique program to mark the 200 years existence of the Country next year.

At the same time, the National Coordinator for the bicentennial celebrations, Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill, has hailed support given to the exercise by the United States Government.

Minister McGill said the US Government’s deep involvement in the planning of the program is due to the historical ties between the two countries.

According to him, such support was shown and expressed in the recent meetings between congressmen and the Liberian delegation that visited the United States.

Minister McGill said next year’s celebration will be a turning point for a greater American interest in Liberia.
