Gender Ministry releases schedule for Internat’l Women’s Day Celebrations

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Gender Ministry has released the schedule for the upcoming International Women’s Day celebration.

The Day will be celebrated on March 8, 2022, under the local theme: Break the Barriers, Set the Stage Gender Equality.

Speaking Thursday, March 3, 2022, at MICAT Press briefing in Monrovia, Assistant Gender Minister for Children and Social Protection, Maminah Karr-Gaye, said the program is expected to bring together women from all sectors in the Country.

Madam Gaye said:” The celebration will begin with a parade, followed by an indoor program at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, and the indoor program will also feature panel discussions among prominent Liberian women.”

According to her, the national colors have been a selected for the celebration in observance of the Bicentennial.

In another development in honor of the celebration, two female engineers are encouraging fellow women to always keep track of their goals and break any barriers hindering their achievement.

Liberia’s first ever Structural Engineer Peresia Wungko and Geo-Technical Engineer Jocelia Tarplah said it is important for women to continue striving for the better, even amid tough challenges.

Engineer Wungko said: Coming from a family filled with male engineers, and at the same time raised in the slums, I was motivated to work harder and change my story.”

For her part, Engineer Tarplah said: Reading science courses extensively triggered my desire in becoming a Geo-Technical Engineer.”

Meanwhile, the two Liberian engineers are urging the Liberian Government to invest more money in programs that will attract women to the engineering field.
