MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC) on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, ruled in a complaint against the exit of the Unity Party (UP) and the All Liberian Party (ALP) from the Collaborating Political Party (CPP).
In its ruling, NEC sent the case to its Hearing Officer to look into the merit of the case filed against the two political parties, by the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Liberty Party (LP), also members of the Coalition.
The LP and ANC recently filed complaint over the abrupt exit of the two parties from the Coalition, and their eligibility to field candidates in the ensuing Senatorial By-election in Lofa County.
UP challenged the jurisdiction of the NEC Hearing Officer to preside over the dispute, following which the complaint was advanced to the level of the Board of Commissioners.
But in its ruling, the Board of Commissioners ordered that the case be taken back to the Hearing Officer to look into it.
