GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA-Grand Gedeh County Senator says the continuous infiltration of Liberian farms by Burkinabes is a troubling situation that needs to be addressed.

In an ELBC interview on Monday, May 9, 2022, Senator Marshall Dennis said the presence of Burkinabes in the County’s forest poses serious threat to the Country.

Senator Dennis noted that the Burkinabes are illegally occupying land and destroying the forest by cutting down logs, causing huge revenue loss to the Country.

The Grand Gedeh Senator said most of the occupants do not have proper documentation, something, according to him, could create future problem.

Meanwhile, Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf said the Governments of Liberia and Burkina Faso are working on all modalities to remedy the situation.

He maintained that under the ECOWAS protocol, the Burkinabes have the rights to free movement in the sub-region but with proper documents, something he said is being worked on to regularize their status.
