MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has issued a proclamation calling a Special Session of the 54TH National Legislature.
President Weah wants the lawmakers return for a period of thirty days, beginning August 15 to September 13, 2022, to discuss and act upon matters of national emergency and concern.
According to a Foreign Ministry release issued recently, the Proclamation is consistent with Article 32(b) of the Constitution, which gives the President the authority to extend or call for an extraordinary session to act on issues of national concern.
The Proclamation stated that there are still time-bound critical national issues which must be resolved as a matter of urgency, instead of waiting until the Legislature returns in October 2022.
Some of the critical issues include the appointment of a new Chief Justice, setting of a new census date, passage of the amendment of the new Elections Law, and ratification and passage of other significant instruments pending before the Legislature, especially agreements of economic nature.
