MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Rescue Alternative Liberia (RAL) is calling on the House Representatives to concur with the Liberian Senate on the passage of the bill seeking to abolish death penalty in Liberia.

The Senate passed the bill following its submission by President George Weah in July this year, and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

Speaking at an interactive forum on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Monrovia, the Program Coordinator of RAL, Sam Nimely, said:” The concurrence will show Liberia’s determination to fulfilling its regional and international treaty obligations.”

Mr. Nimely added that a decision by the House to act on the bill will project a positive image for Liberia on the international scene.

Also speaking, the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights Deputy Country Representative, Dr. Sonny Onyegbula, called on Liberians to prevail on their lawmakers, to ensure the House con curs with the Senate.

He noted that the passage of the bill will promote the human rights profile of Liberia.
