MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Freeport of Monrovia is set to undergo new dredging aimed at widening the port channels.

It followed the signing of a dredging financing and execution agreement signed between the National Port Authority (NPA) and APM Terminals, recently.

According to technical details released by APM Terminals, the project will restore the draft and beam of the Freeport Harbor Channel, bringing it close to the original design levels of 2011.

The project, valued at six-million United States Dollars, will use global expertise in marine engineering, and will be done by one of the leading dredging companies in the world.

NPA Board Chairman Matthew Gueh said:” The agreement will remedy current restrictions at the Freeport, and increase benefits to the business community and Liberian consumers.”

For his part, APM Terminals Managing Director, Jonathan Graham stressed that the agreement was driven by the notable partnership between the various Government ministries and agencies, over the years.
