MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) is to begin putting in circulation the much-anticipated coins, as of next week.
The coins, which are mainly in the denomination of five and ten, were minted alongside the new Liberian Dollar banknotes.
Speaking on ELBC Money Matters program Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the Director of Banking at the CBL, Mr. William Jlopleh said:” The CBL and the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) have already begun the validation process.”
Mr. Jlopleh further disclosed that the total amount of coins minted and brought into the Country is four-hundred-sixty-two-million- nine-hundred-thousand Liberian Dollars.
For his part, the Director of Economic Policy, Christopher Wallace said:” The CBL is working with its regional cash hub to ensure the coins get to the rural areas.”
Mr. Wallace noted that the coins, which were minted alongside the new Liberian Dollar banknotes, will help resolve the issue of change on the Liberian market.
