MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah wants Africans in diaspora communities reconnect with the Continent and push for its development.

President Weah said:” It is about time African leaders utilize the invaluable contributions of diaspora Africans towards the Continent’s growth and development.”

The Liberian Leader made the statement on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, when he addressed world leaders at the Africa-US Summit in Washington, DC.

President Weah told the gathering about measures taken by his government to encourage and allow individuals of Liberian origin return and contribute to the development of the Country.

The Liberian Chief Executive named some of the steps as restrictive laws on citizenship and the passing of dual citizenship laws.

At the same time President Weah has called for increased opportunities to allow African youth reach their full potentials.

He believes that African leaders have the potential to turn around the grim outlook of the Continent based on the huge percent of Africans being young people.

He decried that based on limited opportunities, a growing number of youth risk their lives seeking opportunities in the West.

President Weah also wants young people and the general African diaspora to innovate, invest and transfer knowledge in addressing the needs of the Continent.

He recounted that through hard work, discipline and determination, he climbed to the top of his career as a professional footballer from a poor and humble background growing up in the slumps of Gibraltar in Monrovia.

President Weah added that he took back many investments to Liberia, Zanzibar, Cote D’Ivoire and other parts of Africa, while pursuing his professional career in the diaspora, with a call for others to emulate.
