ArcelorMittal-Liberia Commits to Addressing Salary Disparity and Increment

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Management of ArcelorMittal-Liberia says it is committed to addressing workers’ salary disparity and increment in two weeks.

The Management has also promised to shortly begin the disbursement of workers’ long outstanding bonuses retroactively.

A release issued recently quotes ArcelorMittal Chief Executive Officer, Jozephus Coenen, as also promising to instruct the Company’s team of lawyers to withdraw ongoing litigation at the National Labor Court between the Management and workers.

The release said Mr. Coenen spoke on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at a special meeting organized by the Minister of State, Wesseh Blamo, and other officials of government at settling the longstanding tension at the Company.

The Ministry of Labor, in early May, rendered a ruling in favor of ArcelorMittal workers on the dispute bordering on salary disparity and demanded salary increments.

The ruling adjudged ArcelorMittal-Liberia Management guilty of unfair labor practices and ordered a five percent increment in the workers’ salary.
