MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several Liberians, and foreign partners have been awarded for their exemplary services to the country at the annual Golden Image Awards (GIA).
The awardees were drawn from different categories ranging from lifetime achievers, national excellence awards, gender equality, and youth empowerment, among others.
Speaking at the program on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Monrovia City Hall, Information Minister, Ledgerhood Rennie, applauded the organizers of the Golden Image Awards.
Minister Rennie said:” Over the years the GIA has put Liberia on the map by recognizing citizens who are making an impact in the country.”
The Ministry of Information Boss expressed optimism that the annual celebrations will continue to serve as motivation for Liberians.
The ceremony was held under the theme: “Giving Hope to Our People through Peace, Non-Violence, and Credible Elections.”
Meanwhile, the Keynote Speaker of the 13th Edition of the Golden Image Awards says young people of Liberia should be provided opportunities that prove that they are significant to Liberia’s development.
Madam Banica Elliot said:” As Liberia heads to elections, young people should not be used as foot soldiers for confusion, and that the youth of Liberia deserves better livelihood programs from those in authority.”
Madam Elliot, who is also the President of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), however, used the occasion to point out the introduction of a youth agriculture program organized by FLY for young people in five counties, adding that such a program, with support from the Chinese Government, is geared towards youth empowerment.
At the same time, President George Weah has again committed Government to the holding free, fair, and transparent elections.
President Weah said:” This can be achieved with the collective efforts of all irrespective of political differences.”
The Chief Convener of the 13th Golden Image Awards extolled the organizers for giving hope to citizens in furtherance of peace and unity.
The Liberian Leader then reaffirmed his continued support to the Liberia Crusade for Peace in the promotion of peace and reconciliation across the country, adding that these activities only renew the vigor and hope that the country is heading in the right direction.
For her part, the Founder and Chief Planner of the Golden Image Awards, Juli Endee urged Liberians to continue to uphold the principles of peace and unity.
Ambassador Endee said:” The country goes to elections this year, and it is incumbent upon all to work together in maintaining the peace the country now enjoys.”
Giving an overview of the occasion, she said:” The program is intended to recognize the achievements individuals and institutions have made in the social and economic development of the country, and that their recognition should inspire others to make an impact in society.”
