by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah is encouraging Liberians not to allow politics to drive away the peace the country now enjoys.

President Weah said with peace and unity, the country can move forward, and maintaining the peace requires the holistic approach of all, including members of the opposition bloc”.

He then cautioned citizens to be thankful for God’s bountiful blessings upon the country.

Making special remarks at the Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service held at the Philadelphia Central Church on Sunday, July 23, 2023, President Weah underscored the need for citizens to emulate the spirit of appreciation.

The Liberian Chief Executive, however, frowned at citizens who choose violence and division over peace.

Meanwhile, the presiding Bishop of the Philadelphia Church Ministries, Rev. Dr. George Harris admonished Christians to value the essence of prayer.

Rev. Dr. Harris said:” Prayer unlocks doors of supernatural blessings upon the nation and its people.”

According to him, peaceful coexistence in the home, government, and society is crucial to the preservation of national development.

Speaking on the theme: “Lord, Give Us Peace in the Land”, he noted that prayer brings peace and unity amongst brethren in the nation.

He then urged the church to individually and collectively pray for the sustenance of the nation’s peace and security.

At the same time, Bishop Harris is calling on Liberians to change their mindset, adding that changing the mindset entails positivity in the country and that making progress as a nation requires the collective effort of everyone.

The Liberian prelate then cautioned citizens to do away with what he called ‘negative criticisms’.

The Rev. Dr. George Harris said:” It is not only those in Government who can work towards the development of the country, but citizens in the private sector as well.”
