MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC) is urging political parties and independent candidates to respect the rule of law and conduct their campaigns in a peaceful and ordinary manner.
ECC said:” The consolation of the country’s fragile and emerging democracy is the primary responsibility of the citizens to maintain the internal peace and security.”
The Organization’s Chairperson, Cllr. Oscar Bloh, at a press conference on Monday, August 7, 2023, also cautioned parties and candidates to embrace issue-based campaigns rather than attacking personalities.
Mr. Bloh also urged political actors to refrain from dissemination of fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information to the public as another way of upholding peace and avoiding electoral violence.
Mr. Oscar Bloh, however, called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to conduct itself in a professional and non-partisan manner in the protection of lives and properties and should be robust in responding to any acts of violence.
