WFP Pledges Continuous Support to Liberia’s Agriculture Sector

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-World Food Program (WFP) Country Director, Aliou Diongue, has pledged the entity’s continuous support to the Agriculture Sector of Liberia.

Dr. Diongue said: “The WFP-Liberia will work along with the various farming groups in Bong County to increase their production to generate more money.”

He WFP-Liberia will ensure school feeding interventions continue to motivate school-going kids to have daily meals to stay in school.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Jeannine Cooper expressed delight over the level of work done by the various farming groups, amid minimum support.

Minister Cooper also hailed the excellent working relationship with WFP and promised to support efforts by farmers to facilitate their work.

Meanwhile, the WFP and the Agriculture Ministry have completed an assessment tour of several projects in Bong County.

They toured Yalafamah, Margbah, and Welekemah Farmer Groups in Salala, Sergeant Kollie Town, and Welekemah in Melekie, respectively.

The WFP-Liberia Team and the Agriculture Ministry also toured the construction of warehouses and milling sites in Totota, Sergeant Kollie Town, including the agri-business center.

The WFP-Liberia is carrying out an Integrated Food Security Program in Bong County, with funding from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with BRAC serving as implementing partner.

The project is intended to empower women farmers whose products are basically used for school feeding programs in Liberian schools.
