MONROVIA, LIBERIA- The executive branch of the Liberian Government has requested the National Legislature for an additional twenty-six days to submit the 2024 Draft National Budget.

In the 31st October communication, President George Weah said the extension is necessary to give the Finance Ministry ample time to draft the budget.

The President’s letter, read in Plenary on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, said the decision is based on the continuous disruption of the budget preparation as a result of the just-ended elections.

Consistent with the amended FPM Law of 2019, the President shall submit to the National Legislature the proposed budget no later than two months before the start of the fiscal year.

Meanwhile, members of the National Legislature said it will require the extension of their sitting which is due to expire on December 8 this year, to thoroughly look into the budget to ensure the passage.
