by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has mandated its Joint Committee on Mines and Energy, Concessions and Labor, to investigate the operations of BAO CHICO and other mining companies in Gbarpolu and Montserrado Counties.

It followed a complaint by Senators Botoe Kanneh and Saah Joseph of the two counties on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Senator Kanneh told the Plenary that the blasting of rocks by BAO CHICO is greatly affecting nearby towns and villages in the area.

Also speaking, Senator Joseph alleged that five foreign companies operating in Todee District, Montserrado County, obtained a Class B Mining License, and signed an agreement with communities for one thousand US Dollars.

Meanwhile, the Plenary has instructed its Joint Committee to report on Thursday.
