MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Civil Law Court Judge, Golda Bonah-Elliot, has urged judicial officials to perform their duties with a high degree of professionalism and impartiality.

Judge Bonah-Elliot said:” Judges should dispense justice within the confines of the law and the Constitution of Liberia.”

She said:” It is incumbent upon the courts to dispense impartial justice without fear or favor to dismiss growing public perception about a corrupt Judiciary System.”

The Civil Law Court Judge also cautioned lawyers to commit themselves to the assignment of cases and serve in the interest of their clients to avoid overcrowding cases on courts’ dockets.

Judge Golda Bonah-Elliot spoke on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the opening of the Civil Law Court for the December Term.

In another development, The Supreme Court of Liberia has condemned the protest attack on the home of Judge George Wiles, Resident Judge of Grand Gedeh County.

On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, some citizens of Zwedru staged a protest action at the home of Judge Wiles demanding the unconditional release from detention of their kinsmen and defendants who are facing trial for multiple criminal offenses.

The Supreme Court said:” The action of the protesters endangered the lives of the Judge and his family, thus undermining the importance of upholding the rule of law, maintaining independence, neutrality and integrity of the courts.”

In a statement issued on Monday, December 18, 2023, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for citizens of Grand Gedeh to seek redress through legal means, noting that they will be held accountable for their actions.

The High Court vowed never to adjudicate a matter brought before it based on sentiments, but rather on the fundamental principles of the Liberian Constitution and the relevant controlling laws.
