Margibi County Rep.-Elect Cooper Warns against One-Party Nat’l Legislature

by Maximilian K. Kasseh jr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Margibi County District One Representative-elect is warning against the one-party Legislature of the incoming government.

Representative-elect Roland Cooper said:” I foresee the 55th National Legislature pushing for a one-party system of government if the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate Pro Temp are elected from the incoming Unity Party (UP)-led administration.”

Speaking in an ELBC interview on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Mr. Cooper said:” To ensure a robust 55th National Legislature, the Speaker and Pro-Temp should be elected from other political parties and not the UP.”

He said it would be the replica of the outgoing Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)-led Government to have the Speaker and Senate Pro-Temp coming from the same party.

Representative-elect Roland Cooper added that the independence of the 55th Legislature will be boasted with the election of non-UP supporters to the leadership of the incoming National Legislature.
