Gov. Sets Up Multi-Sectorial Committee to Combat Drugs…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Liberian Government-led multi-sectorial committee has been set up to combat drugs and substance abuse across the Country.

The Committee, established by President Joseph Boakai, includes the Ministries of Health, Justice, Youth and Sports, Gender, Children and Social Protection, Education, Finance, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

According to an Executive Mansion release issued recently, the Committee headed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Louise Kpoto, is expected to conduct a nationwide thorough assessment and identify rehabilitation sites for at-risk youth beginning this Monday, February 19, 2024.

The Committee will evaluate the current state of drugs and substance abuse across the Country and foster collaborative partnerships among law enforcement, healthcare, education, social services, donors, and other relevant sectors to tackle the menace.

It stated that through concerted efforts and proactive measures, the Government of Liberia aims at safeguarding communities and creating a safer, healthier future for all.

Meanwhile, the Committee has established a Secretariat charged with developing comprehensive strategies and a roadmap to combat drugs and substance abuse within a three-year timeframe.

The Work of the Secretariat includes developing strategies and a roadmap and assigning the duties and responsibilities of each participating ministry and agency.
