MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has suspended the Director General of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Stanley Ford, over allegations of financial malpractice.

An Executive Mansion release issued over the weekend described the Liberian Leader’s move as a clear demonstration of his commitment to upholding public officials accountable for their actions.

The President has also mandated the Justice Ministry to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The release also quotes President Joseph Boakai as urging the suspended FIU Boss to fully cooperate with the investigation to bring the matter to a logical conclusion.

In another development, the Special Security Team set up to probe the security breach at the United Methodist University Commencement Convocation has presented its findings to President Joseph Boakai.

The investigation team comprises representatives from the Liberia National Police, the Armed Forces of Liberia, and the Executive Protection Service (EPS).

According to an Executive Mansion release issue over the weekend, the Team’s findings, among other things, recommended that the intruder, identified as Sam Kanwea, be charged with offensive touching and Reckless Endangerment.

The report also considers the failure of the EPS Agents to ensure proper protection of the President, amid such invasion as a violation of the EPS Duty Manual and the Standard Operating Procedure governing the Service.

The Report recommended administrative actions against the Agents assigned and the continuation of in-service training to ensure enhanced operational capacity and readiness to always provide advanced security service.
