MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Two Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are calling for the recusal of the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, from steering the affairs of the institution.
The organizations are the Center for Trauma Counseling and Conflict Resolution and the Forum for the Establishment of World Crimes Court in Liberia.
They noted that the indictment of the NEC Chairperson by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) on corruption charges automatically disqualifies her from heading an integrity institution, like the NEC.
Madam Brown-Lansanah was indicted last year on several counts, including money laundering, violation of the Code of Conduct and conflict of interest.
Messrs. Saydee Monboe II and Richard Kieh said:” Amid her corruption charges, she continues to steer the affairs of the institution, which is an affront to the rule of law in Country.”
They are of the conviction that her recusal as Chairperson of NEC will enable the Government to speedily investigate corruption charges levied against her, and at the same time rebuild the credibility of the institution.
