MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia and Turkey have reached an agreement that will see Liberian students further their education at various Turkish universities.
As part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two governments over the weekend, the Turkish Maarif Foundation will provide scholarships for Liberian students at universities in Turkey.
During the signing in Sinkor, Turkish Ambassador to Liberia Oziem Erguun Ulueren, described the move as a step forward in the bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Foreign Minister Dee Maxwell Kemayah lauded his Turkish counterpart for cooperation.
Minister Kemayah said:” The MoU is in line with President George Weah’s vision in relation to Liberia’s education sector.”
So far, the Turkish Maarif Foundation has granted 106 scholarships to Liberian students, for the furtherance of their education under their program.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Ansu Sonii has reaffirmed his Ministry’s support to President Weah’s quest to improve education in Liberia.
Minister Sonii said:” When the minds of people are capacitated; they are capable of developing their country.”
He maintained that investing in education is pivotal to the development of any nation, adding that the supplemental academic enrichment programs will help improve the livelihood of Liberians.
The Education Minister lauded President Weah for his vision to improve education in the country.
