NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA-Redundant workers of the Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia (SEGAL) have threatened a week-long protest over unpaid benefits.
The former workers threatened to disrupt the Rail Way operations in Sanniquellie and other areas under the concession of ArcelorMittal.
Three leaders of the protesters, John Lehwoahn, Tongor Duo, and Esau Boyah told ELBC in Sanniquellie on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, since they were abruptly sacked six years ago; SEGAL CEO Momo Cyrus has refused to settle their benefits.
They said their protest is triggered by the continuous refusal of SEGAL Management to pay their benefits, despite court ruling in their favor.
The former SEGAL Workers threatened to block the railway as a means of drawing the attention of ArcelorMittal and government to the situation.
Meanwhile, SEGAL CEO Momo Cyrus has told ELBC he cannot say much about the situation, because the case is still in Court.
At the same time, five officers of the SEGAL have been honored by ArcelorMittal Liberia in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Those honored for their dedicated and relentless services include Emmanuel Wleh, Esther Tokpah, Jury Dixon, Daisy Weah and Michael Peters
AML Head of Corporate Services, Samuel Stevquoah, said:” The move is a best practice measure aimed at motivating workers.
The initiative will also be extended to the Company’s Nimba County operational area in recognition of hard working and committed employees.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of SEGAL, Momo Cyrus, has lauded ArcelorMittal Management for recognizing the efforts of his employees.
Mr. Cyrus said:” The honor will help enhance the performance and morale of SEGAL officers at the company’s facilities across the Country.”
He, at the same time, presented some cash reward to each of the honorees as a way of further motivating them.
For their part, the honorees pledged to remain vigilant in the discharge of their duties, thanking AML for the honor.
